In October 2023, Brazil assumed the rotating presidency of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC). Being the developing country that has most often taken up this position (11 times), and considering Brazil’s importance in the global stage, expectations were running high to see the impact the country would have on the centre of international security debates. This short article aims at offering an insight into the main points of Brazil’s presidency of the UNSC, that while impactful, was clearly overshadowed by the October 7th attacks, fueling the Israel-Hamas war and causing an already expected deadlock of the Council.
